Innovative rotation systems for gutters and covers

The dirty, dangerous and time consuming job of climbing ladders year after year to clean the same gutters has been eliminated with the development of two new innovative products from Triangle Handyman:
RGRS and RGCRS (patents pending).

Rain Gutter Rotation System (RGRS)

RGRS was developed first and has proven to be a simple, reliable solution to rotate and clean rain gutters from the ground.

RGRS allows rain gutters that are found on millions of homes and buildings to be rotated and emptied from the ground. Rotating brackets attached to the fascia allow the gutter to rotate on self-closing hinges that provide enough retentive force to hold it upright while still allowing it to be rotated over from the ground by means of a hooked rod on the end of a telescopic pole. If the contents are relatively dry, gravity empties all the debris in the gutter. If required, a brush which is part of the rod assembly is used to dislodge sticky wet debris that gravity alone cannot pull out of the inverted gutter. After cleaning the rod is used to return the gutter back up to the operating position.

In operation the gutter empties into a standard downspout through a reactangular open top box made of flashing called the collector box. It is fixed to the top of the downspout and to the fascia board as well.

With RGRS each straight gutter section is independent, meaning water does not flow around gutter corners to adjacent gutter sections as happens in a fixed gutter system. Each independent section requires a downspout. Where two rotating gutters meet or where a rotating gutter and fixed gutter meet, inline or on a corner, they can share a common downspout.

For long single gutter sections with few closely located corners RGRS is a complete gutter solution. As more applications were encountered, those with corners located close together such as on a small front porch, required more downspouts than needed for adequate roof surface drainage. This situation led to the development of the Rain Gutter Cover Rotation System (RGCRS). rule

Rain Gutter Cover Rotation System (RGCRS)

RGCRS is a porous cover that fits on top of fixed gutters and keeps leaves and debris from entering the gutter. It attaches to the gutter with self-closing hinges and can be rotated and cleaned from the ground using the same telescopic pole and hook used for RGRS. The covers are easily mitered to fit and work together on corners.

RGCRS can work by itself, so why offer both RGRS and RGCRS?

An entire building could be fitted with RGCRS which comes in 12 foot sections. This is half the maximum 24 foot length of RGRS sections, and cleaning them would require rotating twice as many sections.

At 24 feet maximum, RGRS sections are about the length of gutter that requires a downspout. So it is a natural fit on long gutter sections. In areas where there are a number of corners in close proximity, RGCRS can be installed over the fixed gutters serving those areas.

For gutter stubs less than three feet long or gutter sections less than three long connecting long parallel gutter sections, a third configuration would work best. This is a fixed gutter with a fixed cover. Collected debris could be easily brushed off of it. Although a rotating gutter or rotating gutter cover could be used, it would be overkill on such short sections.

By using rotating gutters, rotating covers and fixed covers in the appropriate places, a gutter system can be built for any roofline and easily maintained from the ground.

The projected cost for production level components of RGRS and RGCRS parts are $2.60 per foot.
